Employed by Areen Design in London as part of an extensive team of architects, designers, technicians and F+B specialists, in the design development of the internal elements of the new King Abdulaziz International Airport Terminal One and Transit Terminal, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
I worked on several interior elements, but my primary role was developing the design of the multifunctional service pods, 84 of which are distributed along the length of the terminal. Housing retail, washrooms, prayer, ablution facilities and smoking areas, as well as providing air conditioning for the vast spaces.
My proposal for a modular system of interchangeable panels fixed to a simple frame structure, was adopted as a flexible, future-proof solution. One that could adapt to changing requirements and predicted increased passenger footfall over the coming years.
